The 9 Biggest Trends this A/W Season

We’ve seen the runways in Paris, London, Milan and New York, and 9 top fashion trends have been spotted. You can expect your customers to be looking for velvet, shearling and military pieces to fill their wardrobe.

Sportswear couture

Debuted by Balenciaga in Paris, you can expect an increase in demand for workaday cagoules as women seek to capture the look in their autumn and winter collections. Other designers added sportswear accents through rugby socks, varsity sweaters and bomber jackets.

Shearling

An Americanism for sheepskin, shearling featured heavily on this season’s catwalks. From entire dresses to beautifully lined coats, shearling was in perhaps every other show, making it a hot trend.

Military

Khaki army coats and military overcoats were seen all over the runways, and will soon be replacing everyone’s current coats as the chic and up to date outerwear option.

Heritage

Heritage was given a number of different updates by plenty of designers for this season. Some of the silhouettes are undoubtedly awkward, but the range of heritage soon to be on the market will ensure your customers will find the perfect piece.

Sequins

Sequins were used by so many designers, it’s clear that in order to stay fashionable with your market, you’ll have to adopt them too. Some of the designers using sequins included: Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Erdem, Preen, McQueen, Rochas, Valentino and Moschino.

Velvet

With luxurious and fluid lines, velvet dresses were seen extensively on the catwalks and they were anything but fusty and old fashioned. Some designers went for a sexy, decadent look, whilst others went down a delicate, ladylike route.

Ski pants

Ski pants are about to explode in popularity, and with a number of different influences, including English gent, low crotches and incredibly tight.

Underwear as outerwear

Underwear as outerwear isn’t particularly anything new, but this season sees it return in popularity. One approachable and realistic way your customers can wear this as an everyday look is to wear a corset or bustier over a dress.

Stripes

Say goodbye to the safe Breton stripe: This season it’s all about bold and unconventional colours, textures and proportions when it comes to stripes. As well as horizontal stripes, you can expect contrasting layers, patchwork and asymmetry to all be seen.
